WEDNESDAY 23rd NOVEMBER

The annual Ben Cameron-Chris Davies Challenge Cup was played at Park 25 in the West Parklands on Wednesday 23rd November 2011.

The twelve members of the Wirreanda squad were all presented at the beginning of the day with their new school cricket caps that were supplied by generous sponsors.
Addison Rodgers won the toss for Wirreanda High and chose to bat. After a reasonable start from openers Chad Thomson and Josh Golding, Wirreanda's top order batsmen collapsed with the score reaching 6 for 35, of which 29 came from Josh Golding's bat. There was a slight comeback when Richard Hore and Liam Hennessy made 13 each in the late order. Josh Golding finished with 52 out of Wirreanda's total of 96.
The Heights innings started poorly with three wickets lost for 6 runs. However a fourth wicket partnership of 88 allowed The Heights to pass Wirreanda's score with four wickets down.
There were some notable bowling performances from the Wirreanda bowlers. Josh Golding bowled 7 overs and took 2 wickets for 3 runs with 4 maidens. Warren Schutt bowled really well early without much luck, but finished with 4/14 off his 7 overs. In his last over, Warren took three wickets and narrowly missed a well deserved hat-trick. Chad Thomson bowled three balls with two wickets.
The Heights were all out for 115 and retained the Ben Cameron-Chris Davies Challenge Cup in its second year.
Both Ben Cameron and Chris Davies attended the game with Chris presenting the cup to Hayden Smith, the winning captain.
The match was played in a positive spirit with students from both schools interacting and discussing the game throughout the day.
A thank you must go to Josh DeHeus who scored for the entire match and parent Heather Wellington from The Heights who took magnificent photographs of the day's events.
