MARTIN CLIFTON DAVID SCHOLZ CHALLENGE SHIELD 2012
THURSDAY 15th NOVEMBER
The first game of the Martin Clifton-David Scholz Shield was played at Wirreanda High on 15th November. Addison Rodgers lost the toss and was invited to bat by Reynella East. Chad Thomson and Josh Golding opened the batting for Wirreanda, but they were soon finding themselves in a precarious position after losing the openers, Damian Merritt, Addison Rodgers, Warren Schutt, Matt Brooks and Lachlan Ferguson with only 26 runs on the board. A stubborn partnership was then put together by Kalem Greenwood and Richard Hore. Another small partnership was made between Richard Hore, who was the last man out for 26, and Liam Hennessy. Wirreanda was dismissed for 71.
With such a small total to defend, Addison Rodgers and Josh Golding took two early wickets. However there was some steady batting and Reynella East were able to reach the required runs with only five wickets down. Kalem Greenwood was the most successful bowler with two wickets while Matt Brooks who was playing in his first cricket game took two catches and one wicket.
