The Martin Clifton-David Scholz Challenge Shield was contested at Wirreanda High School on Monday 11th November. Wirreanda batted first after Reynella East won the toss and elected to field. After a steady start by openers Zach Young and Connor Lock, three quick wickets fell before a good partnership between Josh Farley-Farrant and Jake Dorshorst took the score to 40. However, a terrible collapse saw seven wickets tumble for three runs with Josh Farley-Farrant being the top scorer with 19.
The bowlers and fielders were instructed to make sure they made every effort to restrict the scoring possibilities of Reynella East, but their batsmen were able to pass the 43 required runs in seven overs. Most bowlers contributed with a few good deliveries, and several catches were nearly taken, but overall the Reynella batsmen dominated.
Three notable mentions must go to Wirreanda players. Firstly to Trent Gale who took 3/4 from his only over, and secondly, to Josh Farley-Farrant for providing the game with an exciting moment when he took two wickets with two deliveries. Casey Chester had very good day behind the stumps taking one catch and three stumpings.
After the Shield was presented to the winning captain of Reynella East, the Wirreanda players were asked to reflect on the game at a quick meeting. All the boys were disappointed and agreed that their performance needed to improve to provide a competitive contest in future games.
