TO PLAY CRICKET IS EASY. TO UNDERSTAND THE GAME TAKES TIME.

BEN CAMERON CHRIS DAVIES CHALLENGE CUP 2014

WEDNESDAY 19th NOVEMBER

The fifth Ben Cameron-Chris Davies Challenge Cup game took place on Wednesday 19th November. As a turf wicket at Park 25 was not available, Wirreanda took a 90 minute bus ride in peak hour traffic to The Heights School at Modbury Heights. The ride allowed for some good cricket and general discussion to take place.
The Heights won the toss and chose to bat first. They lost three early wickets with Mohit Khanna picking up the first two, and Billy Jenkins throwing the ball accurately to wicket keeper Jake Dorshorst who took the bails off before the batsman could make his ground. However The Heights were able to consolidate and ended up with 5/179 after their 35 overs. Mohit playing in his first full game for the school finished with 3/18 while Lachlan Corr took 1/35. Connor Lock bowled very tightly to finish with 7 overs, 4 maidens and 0/7.
Mohit Khanna and Jake Moulder opened the batting, but unfortunately Mohit was out at the end of the first over without scoring. Connor Lock came to the wicket determined to make a good score after missing out on the runs in the previous game. He produced a wonderful captain’s innings and finished on 42. He had some very good support from Andrew Cowie-Taylor who played very good innings of 18. After 35 overs Wirreanda finished on 9/129 with Ricky Lockyer making 10 not out at number eleven while Jack Lawrie-Corboy finished on 7 not out
The team performed very well given that they were playing on an unfamiliar ground, and they gave one another encouragement throughout the game. Zach Young was the scorer and is to be thanked for his efforts.
