ABERFOYLE PARK HIGH SCHOOL vs WIRREANDA HIGH SCHOOL

YEAR 8/9

WEDNESDAY 15th FEBRUARY 2012

The Year 8/9 team travelled to Happy Valley Oval on Wednesday 15th February to play Aberfoyle Park High.
Kalem Greenwood won the toss and decided that Wirreanda should bat. Kalem and Shaun Johns gave Wirreanda a good start before Shaun(15) was run out due to a mix up. There was then a good partnership between Kalem Greenwood(16) and Lachlan Ferguson(22) who took the score to 66 before a minor collapse left Wirreanda at 5/70. Richard Hore, who top scored with 25, and Liam Hennessy 18 batted very well for 15 overs to put their side back in the contest with a partnership of 44. When the 8th wicket fell at 131 Bodie Sowter joined Joshua Farley-Farrant to add 23 runs that frustrated the Aberfoyle Park team. Wirreanda closed their innings at 9/154 after 35 overs.
Wirreanda took the field after the break and Kalem Greenwood took a wicket with the third ball of the innings to give his team a great start. Nick Cummins also took a wicket in his first over. The rout continued in the next few overs as Aberfoyle Park slumped to 5/4 and then 6/11 before several steady partnerships allowed the score to recover to 91 all out. Kalem Greenwood, who nearly claimed a hat-trick, finished with 3/5, Nick Cummins bowled well to take 3/5 and Bodie Sowter showed great promise with 2/6.
The team showed outstanding form in the field taking five catches from the first five dismissals. Bodie Sowter took one very good catch, and a very difficult one, only to have it disallowed because there was doubt about his foot position on the boundary.
This is the first time in three attempts that Wirreanda has defeated Aberfoyle Park. Well done to the team and to Addison Rodgers who scored during the match.
