TO PLAY CRICKET IS EASY. TO UNDERSTAND THE GAME TAKES TIME.

MARRYATVILLE HIGH SCHOOL vs WIRREANDA SECONDARY SCHOOL

OPEN BOYS

MONDAY 24th
 FEBRUARY 2014

Alex Bitner, Addison Rodgers, Josh Golding, Kalem Greenwood, Richard Hore, Chad Thomson,
Lachlan Ferguson, Warren Schutt, Alfredo Cabada, Bailey Sowter, Shaun Johns.

The open team travelled to Marryatville High School to contest their next round match. Fortunately they had the chance to play on a turf wicket which all of the boys appreciated.
Josh Golding won the toss and elected to field. Alex Bittner took an early wicket and Bailey Sowter caught a very difficult chance at fine leg off Warren Schutt to give Wirreanda the early momentum. All the bowlers delivered very tight spells without giving too much away, but it was Addison Rodgers, completing his finest spell for the school, who had the best figures finishing with 2/6 off six overs and three maidens. He initially did not want to bowl as he was not quite ready mentally, but after his first delivery everything fell into place perfectly. Josh Golding and Alex Bittner also finished with two wickets each and Marryatville ended up with a total of 95.
The boys were very confident going into the break knowing they had 36 overs to score the runs. However the team started disastrously losing Josh Golding and Warren Schutt in the second over, both for 0. There was a good fight back from Kalem Greenwood and Alfredo Cabada who took the score to 21, but both were dismissed in consecutive overs. Shaun Johns, Lachlan Ferguson and Chad Thomson were all out cheaply and the score reached 7/27 with the team in absolute trouble. Alex Bittner and Addison Rodgers then came together to put up a solid resistance to the bowling with Addison hitting several fours in one over to raise the score and lift the confidence of the team.  The total reached 51 with both batsmen looking in control before Addison missed a straight ball and was bowled for 19. Alex Bittner and Richard Hore worked really hard to close the gap, but were unsuccessful with Wirreanda finishing with 74 at the completion of the innings.
Player of the match was Addison Rodgers who had a great day in all areas of the game. Apart from his 2/6 and 19 runs, he also ran out one of the batsmen. Josh Golding did a good job captaining the team with clever fielding positions and bowling changes.
