The year 8/9 Boys Super 8 competition was hosted by Adelaide High School on Friday 31st October with Reynella East College, Blackwood High School and Wirreanda Secondary School being the other participants. Every team was allowed eight overs per innings and every fielder was required to complete at least one over. Balls hit over the boundary that would normally count for six runs counted for eight.
Wirreanda played their first game against Adelaide High who made 2/70. A highlight in the field was that Jake Moulder took a good catch from Andrew Cowie-Taylor’s bowling. Wirreanda made 3/51 in reply with Connor Lock top-scoring with 30 not out.
In the second game against Blackwood, Wirreanda made 4/60 from their eight overs. Connor Lock was again undefeated with 31. In reply Blackwood made 2/81.
The third game was against local rival, Reynella East. They batted very well and finished on 4/87 with Connor lock taking two wickets. Lachlan Corr(10) and Mohit Khanna(18no) batted solidly to give Wirreanda a good start and then Connor Lock hit the bowlers to all parts of the ground to finish not out for the third time on 30. In the final over the umpire called time after the fifth delivery which meant Andrew Cowie-Taylor was unlucky not to face the last ball. The score was 1/59.
Connor Lock was the batsman of the day scoring 91 runs without being dismissed. Ricky Lockyer, Mohit Khanna and Ryan Parry carried out their duties as scorers throughout the day.
