TO PLAY CRICKET IS EASY. TO UNDERSTAND THE GAME TAKES TIME.

WILLUNGA HIGH SCHOOL vs WIRREANDA SECONDARY SCHOOL

OPEN BOYS

FRIDAY 19th FEBRUARY 2016

Zack Robertson, Corey MaGill, Brody Thomson Josh Spall, Connor Lock, Andrew Cowie-Taylor,

Nick Robertson, Mohit Khanna, Jacob Clifford, Jake Cuming, Jackson Willoughby, Thomas Thomson.

The second round match of the Open team was played in the quaint town of Willunga. Although there was some cloud about, the conditions were excellent for cricket.

Willunga won the toss and elected to field first. Mohit Khanna and Zack Robertson batted courageously against some fast bowling and set a good foundation for others to build upon. Connor Lock played a typical captain’s knock and held the batting together to finish with 50 retired. Josh Spall contributed in a supportive manner and was dismissed for an entertaining 21. After Andrew Cowie-Taylor and Nick Robertson were dismissed in the same over, Jake Cuming and Jacob Clifford scrambled a useful partnership before brothers Thomson, Brody and Tom contributed a significant 32 in the last four overs. Tom hit lustily for 17 not out while Brody played the shot of the day with a beautiful off-drive in his 14 not out. Wirreanda ended their innings at 8/185 after 34 overs.

The stand out performance in the field came from opening bowler Jake Cuming who took two wickets in the first over to immediately put Willunga on the back foot. He then took another wicket in his last over to finish with 3/19, and ran out two of Willunga’s batsmen. All the other bowlers assisted Jake to reduce Willunga’s score to 6/121 with Andrew Cowie-Taylor bowling Willunga’s highest scoring batsman at an important time. Connor Lock’s wicket and two catches also played an important part.

Connor and his team played their best cricket for several years in this game. They will be looking forward to the next round against Woodcroft College.
