On Wednesday 7th February the Year 8-9 boys team played hosts to Aberfoyle Park High School.
Aberfoyle Park won the toss and sent Wirreanda into bat. After Josh De Roode was dismissed early for three, Jaxon Newman and Dawson Horrell played several attacking shots before Dawson played one too many and was out for 8. Hayden Newman came to the crease and scored a quick 11 before he was caught going for a lofted shot. Jaxon Newman was in good form and scored a solid 18 in 13 overs, while Llewelyn Wisman was out cheaply for two.
Ryan Fitzpatrick and Jude Schirmer, who were both batting for the first time in Wirreanda colours, put on a partnership of 66 with Ryan retiring on a well-made 35 and Jude finishing with 27 not out. Jayden Prime chipped in with a 4 not out with Wirreanda making 5/151 after 29 overs.
When it was Aberfoyle Park’s turn to bat they were slightly ahead of Wirreanda’s run rate after 12 overs with their score at 3/58 and two batsmen well settled. However, with the score on 70, Jaxon Newman decided to introduce Llewelyn Wisman into the attack for the first time. His first two balls were 2 and a dot, the third had the opening batsman caught by Jaxon, the fourth ball was given LBW and Llewelyn caught the fifth delivery to complete a well-earned hat-trick. This effort changed the momentum of the game back to Wirreanda with Aberfoyle Park being dismissed for 106. The wickets were shared amongst seven bowlers with Jaxon Newman being the only other multiple wicket taker with 2/8. Llewelyn Wisman took 3/6 from two overs.
The Wirreanda boys showed good character to fight back in the game with many players contributing to the team’s success.

A thank you must go to Matt McLean who scored, and Devin Edwards who umpired.
