TO PLAY CRICKET IS EASY. TO UNDERSTAND THE GAME TAKES TIME.

BLACKWOOD HIGH SCHOOL vs WIRREANDA SECONDARY SCHOOL

YEAR 10 TWENTY/20

MONDAY 19th FEBRUARY 2018

Matt McLean(scorer), Nick Wilden, Tyson Craigie, Ryan Fitzpatrick, Mitchell Sands, Llewelyn Wisman, Tylor Cuming,

Jaxon Newman, Hayden Newman, Blake Bainbridge, Lachlan Prior, Josh De Roode, Dawson Horrell.

The Year 10 team travelled to the picturesque Blackwood High School on Monday 19th February for their first round match.

Tylor Cuming won the toss and elected to field first. Blackwood scored 13 off Ryan Fitzpatrick's first over, but the run rate slowed down considerably and at drinks at the half way mark only 43 more runs were scored with the loss of 2 wickets. Unfortunately after the break, the Blackwood batsmen decided to attack the bowlers who ended up conceding 115 runs in the last ten overs with the score reaching 8/171.

The bowlers who contributed with wickets were, Jaxon Newman 2/34, Lachlan Prior 2/13, Josh De Roode 2/29 and Dawson Horrell 1/21 with Tyson Craigie running out a batsman on the last ball of the innings. However there were three outstanding catches by Blake Bainbridge, Josh De Roode and Nick Wilden who also took another sharp catch early in the innings.

The Wirreanda innings never gained any momentum with the first seven batsmen all failing to reach double figures. It was difficult to score as the Blackwood bowling was accurate. When Jaxon Newman(18) and Dawson Horrell(14 not out) came together, a small fighting partnership was established that resulted in the team reaching 9/69 after their allocated 20 overs. Mitchell Sands, facing the last delivery of the day played the shot of the day by hitting Blackwood's fastest bowler for a perfectly timed off drive.

This match was one that Blackwood controlled for most of the 40 overs and therefore did not allow Wirreanda a chance to shift the momentum back in their favour.

The team played with a good attitude despite the tough opposition they were up against.

Thank you again must go to Matt McLean who is developing into a fine scorer.
