Sean Perkovic, Josh De Roode, Dawson Horrell, Liam Campbell, Cameron Prior, Hayden Hewman.

The Year 8/9 Boys team headed to Reynella East College for their round two game on Friday 2nd March.
Jaxon Newman won the toss and decided to bat first. Josh De Roode, Jaxon Newman and Dawson Horrell all lost their wickets before the score reached 15. However a solid 56 run partnership between Hayden Newman(24) and Ryan Fitzpatrick(27) took the score to 70 with Hayden being dismissed attempting to increase the run rate. Ryan was bowled when he tried to hit a straight ball out of the ground! Jude Schirmer was patient in his innings of 15 and batted well with Jayden Prime who was supportive as the pair added 18. The ninth wicket fell at 104, but a significant partnership took place in which Llewelyn Wisman and Sean Perkovic batted for the last six overs of the innings to add a very valuable 14 runs. Wirreanda finished on 119 off 34.5 overs.

Hayden Newman and Jude Schirmer opened the bowling but their fieldsmen dropped several catches. Captain Jaxon Newman then pulled off a masterstroke by introducing Josh De Roode who immediately broke the opening partnership with Dawson Horrell taking a low catch to his right behind the stumps. Another wicket fell when a Hayden Newman mis-field at point was turned into a brilliant run out as the batsman attempted a second run. This dismissal proved to be the turning point as all the fieldsmen lifted in confidence with Jayden Prime taking two great catches at backward square leg, Jaxon Newman catching their dangerous captain off his on bowling and Sean Perkovic holding on to one at point. Reynella East were 6/83 requiring 37 off 17 overs. When Josh De Roode commenced his 5th over he had 2/8, but with the last three balls he took an awkward catch and had the next two batsmen LBW to complete a hat-trick! He had single-handedly turned the game around to Wirreanda’s favour. To complete a magnificent day, Josh bowled the last batsman to finish with the extraordinary figures of 6/10 off 6.5 overs. Reynella East ended their innings on 99.

This was a fantastic win for the team who believed that they could come out in front by persevering in the crucial moments and staying focused in taking all their wickets.
Matt McLean scored once again and is to be thanked for his effort.

The following game will be away at Seaview High.
